Empathy’s Legal team is key in enabling efficient decision-making and fostering a secure and dynamic environment that drives Empathy's efforts forward.

We’re looking for a Legal Counsel to join our Legal team and provide comprehensive legal support to our teams across the organization. This role involves drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts with Empathy's customers and vendors globally, ensuring compliance with privacy laws, handling product review matters and providing strategic legal advice on varied and dynamic issues. The ideal candidate has a strong background in commercial law, excellent communication skills, and a creative legal approach. This role is located in New York and reports to our Flatiron based office three times a week.


In this role you will

  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial contracts, including customer agreements, vendor agreements, partnership agreements, and NDAs.
  • Enhance Empathy’s privacy program to comply with various privacy laws and regulations (such as CPRA, HIPAA) and provide ongoing guidance on data protection and privacy issues.
  • Collaborate closely with teams across the organization (such as Sales, Finance, Product, R&D, Client Success) to address legal needs and implement best practices.
  • Build out Empathy’s legal roadmap for entering new markets and execute roadmap implementation.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to assess risks and develop risk mitigation strategies.
  • Conduct legal research and stay updated on relevant laws and regulations affecting the company’s operations.


Requirements

  • Bachelor's law degree and qualification to practice law in Israel or in the U.S.
  • 3+ years of commercial law experience in a commercial or hi-tech department at a law firm, or serving as in-house counsel at a tech company.
  • Experience and comfort with drafting and negotiating commercial contracts.
  • Familiarity with privacy laws and regulations (such as CPRA, U.S. state laws, HIPAA) – an advantage.
  • Corporate legal experience – an advantage. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

More Information:

The annual salary for this position ranges between $120,000 - $140,000. This is decided based on many factors, including but not limited to: skills, qualifications, and geographic location. In addition to base salary, we are proud to offer stock options in the company and a competitive benefits package.
