About Empathy

Empathy is transforming the way families navigate life’s most difficult times — from the loss of a loved one to other major life transitions. By combining technology with compassionate human care, we bring clarity, comfort, and peace of mind when it matters most.

We partner with leading employers, insurers, and financial institutions to deliver meaningful, human-centric support at scale. Today, Empathy supports over 45 million people across North America.

Backed by top-tier investors including General Catalyst, Index Ventures, Adams Street, Aleph and Entreé Capital. we’ve raised over $160 million to date, including a $72 million Series C, to expand our impact and scale our mission worldwide.

We believe in meeting people where they are: creating content that’s kind, clear, emotionally intelligent, and grounded. Every message counts. Every word matters.

In this role you will

  • Help enhance our product content through product content writing.
  • Draft, edit, and refine in-product content (help text, tooltips, user notifications, alerts, onboarding flows, confirmations etc.), ensuring clarity, consistency, and relatability.
  • Ensure alignment with Empathy’s tone, style, and content guidelines.
  • Own content projects: from ideation → draft → review → research feedback → iteration → launch.
  • Collaborate with Product Managers, Design teams, User Research/Content Research, and Data/Analytics to understand user needs, goals, metrics, and constraints.
  • Monitor performance of product content: gather user feedback, analyze metrics (e.g., task completion, comprehension, error rates), and suggest improvements.

Requirements

  • 1-2 years of writing experience in product, content, UX or communications (even internships/project-based work are relevant).
  • Strong writing skills: clarity, empathy, tone, grammar, concise messaging.
  • Ability to take feedback well and iterate quickly. Comfortable working across multiple stakeholders.
  • Understanding of product design/flow, and user experience principles (even though we don’t own UX, you should understand user interaction basics).
  • Experience working with data or metrics, using analytics to guide content decisions.
  • Great organisational skills: managing multiple content projects with deadlines, versioning, review cycles.
  • Experience writing for mental health, bereavement or other sensitive topics.
