About Empathy

Empathy is on a mission to help families with everything they face after the loss of a loved one. Powered by tech and driven by purpose, we provide peace of mind by guiding families through all the tedious and time-consuming tasks that follow a loss, with an exceptionally beautiful app and website that provide in-depth expert advice and support so that families can focus on what matters instead.

We work steadfastly to update and innovate our offerings, giving the families the support they need at the hardest time in their lives. It’s unique, rewarding work with many interesting challenges along the way.

Content Team

We are a team of researchers, writers, and editors who are passionate about getting all the details right while not losing sight of the big picture or the needs of our users. Working closely with every other team at Empathy, we are always thinking on our feet, calibrating our words to the needs of the moment and channelling them through Empathy’s unique and uniquely compassionate voice.

In this role you will:

Write and edit articles covering every aspect of the end-of-life experience, while helping to identify and research new areas in the subject. Help organize, refine, manage, and optimize our online and app content offerings. Work closely with designers, product managers, engineers, and marketers to make certain our words always fit their needs while serving our users. Act as a steward of the Empathy voice, balancing in-depth information with compassion and unconditional support.

  • Excellent internet research skills, including reading and understanding data and concepts in law, finance, and the social sciences

  • Experience managing a multi-platform content library, and fluency in CMS basics

  • Deep understanding of voice and tone, including how paragraph and sentence structure, syntax, and word choice contribute to maintaining a specific voice

  • Proficiency at editing the work of others, and at giving writers pointed but generous feedback to ensure a consistent voice and quality

  • High attention to detail, both for grammar and for the minutiae of practical matters like law

  • Skill at inhabiting a reader’s perspective, looking at a work with fresh eyes, and drawing on empathy for our users’ situations

  • Ability to multitask well and switch gears quickly in a fast-paced environment

  • Working knowledge of SEO best practices preferred

  • Prior knowledge of topics in the end-of-life space, or adjacent topics such as law, personal finance, taxes, accounting, mediation, social work, mental health is a plus

Empathy is a content-heavy project, and our team creates and manages it all, from the interactive blocks of text in the app to in-depth guides and articles covering every aspect of the loss of a loved one—dealing with grief, planning a funeral, handling the duties of an executor, and so on—to audio content providing guidance and comfort to users at this difficult time. Every day is a new challenge, and a rewarding one.
