Empathy is on a mission to help families with everything they face after the loss of a loved one. Content Team
We are a team of researchers, writers, and editors who are passionate about getting all the details right while not losing sight of the big picture or the needs of our users. Working closely with every other team at Empathy, we are always thinking on our feet, calibrating our words to the needs of the moment and channelling them through Empathy’s unique and uniquely compassionate voice.
In this role you will:
Write and edit articles covering every aspect of the end-of-life experience, while helping to identify and research new areas in the subject. Help organize, refine, manage, and optimize our online and app content offerings. Work closely with designers, product managers, engineers, and marketers to make certain our words always fit their needs while serving our users. Act as a steward of the Empathy voice, balancing in-depth information with compassion and unconditional support.
What we’re looking for
Strong background in both writing and editing, with at least 4 years working in content for a tech company or online publication
Excellent internet research skills, including reading and understanding data and concepts in law, finance, and the social sciences
Experience managing a multi-platform content library, and fluency in CMS basics
Deep understanding of voice and tone, including how paragraph and sentence structure, syntax, and word choice contribute to maintaining a specific voice
Proficiency at editing the work of others, and at giving writers pointed but generous feedback to ensure a consistent voice and quality
High attention to detail, both for grammar and for the minutiae of practical matters like law
Skill at inhabiting a reader’s perspective, looking at a work with fresh eyes, and drawing on empathy for our users’ situations
Ability to multitask well and switch gears quickly in a fast-paced environment
Working knowledge of SEO best practices preferred
Prior knowledge of topics in the end-of-life space, or adjacent topics such as law, personal finance, taxes, accounting, mediation, social work, mental health is a plus
Empathy is a content-heavy project, and our team creates and manages it all, from the interactive blocks of text in the app to in-depth guides and articles covering every aspect of the loss of a loved one—dealing with grief, planning a funeral, handling the duties of an executor, and so on—to audio content providing guidance and comfort to users at this difficult time. Every day is a new challenge, and a rewarding one.
